There are a large number of festivals and events across Kyoto Prefecture all year round. Starting with the three largest and most famous festivals, all festivals in Kyoto are all rich in local character. Attending a festival is a great way to experience the richness of the nature, culture and traditions of Kyoto. Let us introduce you to some of the best and the most interesting festivals and events.

Spring / Summer

Enjoy watching boat and firework competitions in the harbor festival. You can also watch the Bon Dance, or even take part in it yourself. There are any number of festivals which you can join in. In summer in the Uji river, the Usho master demonstrates cormorant fishing. Two of the three largest festivals in Kyoto, the Aoi Matsuri Festival and the Gion Matsuri Festival, are also held in summer.

Autumn / Winter

The Jidai Matsuri Festival is one of the three largest festivals in Kyoto. This lively festival adds an extra touch of color and excitement to Kyoto in the autumn. In addition to the festival, you can also enjoy the beauty of fireworks lighting up the night sky above Amanohashidate in late autumn, snow white thatched roofs at the historical village Kayabuki no Sato, fantastic light displays and other exciting entertainment.
