京都市

In this festival, people parade through Kyoto dressed as aristocrats in the Heian era including the saiodai, a special representative. They start from the Kyoto Imperial Palace, heading for Shimogamo-jija Shrine and Kamigamo-jinja Shrine. Bamboo blinds in the shrines, ancient-style court carriages or oxcarts are decorated with hollyhock leaves, so it is called Aoi (Hollyhock) Festival. This is one of the three famous festivals in Kyoto. Postponed in case of rain.
