2026 Cherry Blossom Forecast for Kyoto Prefecture
Due to its long north-south geography, cherry blossoms in Kyoto Prefecture begin to bloom in the south in late March and gradually move northward. The blossoms are expected to be at their peak in Kyoto City around the end of March, and slightly later in the northern Tango area, in early April. Spring’s arrival can be enjoyed for about two months, beginning with the kawazu-zakura in mid-February and concluding with the omuro-zakura in mid-April.
The Japan Weather Corporation’s newest forecast, released on February 19th, predicts that cherry blossoms in Kyoto will start opening in 2026 around March 25th, reaching full bloom approximately by April 2nd. Although there have been significant temperature fluctuations this winter, the rise in temperature since mid-February suggests the blooming will be around average or slightly earlier than usual.
