海の京都・森の京都

Tamba-kuri (Tamba chestnuts) are a traditional product of Kyoto prefecture whose history are as long as other well-known Kyoto traditional vegetables. The Tamba-kuri are from the Tamba region which includes Kameoka, the Funai region, Ayabe, and Fukuchiyama. It’s said that in the old days, Tamba-kuri were used as offerings such as in the Edo period, where Tamba-kuri were also accepted in place of the annual rice tax. Using these Tamba-kuri, Adachi Otoemon located in Fukuchiyama City crafts specialty dessert terrines and pound cakes. The cross sections of the desserts reveal the large, whole chestnuts, which are combined with the famous Wasanbon Japanese refined sugar from the Sanuki region, and flavourful cultured butter to create an exquisite product. You can really enjoy the chestnuts as they make up more than two thirds of the weight of this luxurious dessert. Also, the shop building was previously the residence of the Matsumura family, built during the Taisho and Meji era and is designated as one of Kyoto prefecture’s tangible cultural products. Other than the chestnut terrines and chestnut pound cakes, there are also other baked goods, choux creams and gelato available.
