Kyoto Tea Country

Uji City, just south of Kyoto City, is a tourist destination famous for Uji tea, World Heritage sites, and much more.

It draws many visitors from across the globe!

Let’s Go to Mimurotoji!

Located about 30 min. by car from Kyoto Station (about 5 min. from the Uji-higashi exit of Keiji By-pass), Mimurotoji temple (21 Todo Shigatani, Uji City, Kyoto) is currently opening its Kurume Azalea garden for viewing through April 26 (Sunday)!

This is a new area that only opened to the public last year!

This view is a total reminder of just how beautiful red can be.

Getting lost in these deep red azaleas is the ultimate pick-me-up.

You can spot a heart design up high, too!

And the Hirado Azalea garden is also set to open from April 18 (Saturday) to May 10 (Sunday).

If your timing is right, you can see both Hirado and Kurume Azaleas!

The flowers are breathtaking—you can take great photos!

Lost in a dreamlike paradise where every bloom brings a smile.

Surrounded by these lovely colors, the rest of the world just fades away.

It’s pure magic!

(The photos of azaleas are from archives. Please check the latest updates before visiting.)

Treat Yourself to an Amazing Lunch

After soaking in the beauty of the temple, why not enjoy lunch at Tomarico (1 Todo Kurumada, Uji City)?

It’s a gem in Uji where the chef’s expertise shines.

Savor the incredible flavors of carefully selected ingredients, like fresh, local organic veggies!

You can even level up your meal with Tosa Rouge Beef, a.k.a. “phantom wagyu beef” alongside your appetizers, fresh pasta, desserts, and more!

You can taste the chef’s passion in every bite.

Amazing food and such a great atmosphere.

A sensory experience you don’t want to miss!

Enjoy Tea Dumplings and Sightseeing

After the blissful lunch, stop by Ujigawa-Mochi Honten (180-4 Uji Myoraku, Uji City; indoor seating available) near JR Uji Station.

Their hand-kneaded cha-dango (skewered rice dumplings made with tea) are aromatic and delicious!

One bite and you’re in heaven.

It’s so irresistible, I can’t stop reaching for more!

You can grab some boxes for your friends and family, too.

They also offer a paid luggage storage service, so enjoy exploring around the Uji River hands-free!

Whether you’re strolling through Nakanoshima Island on the Uji River or exploring ancient temples and shrines, there’s so much to discover!

Don’t miss out on the museums and hands-on tea workshops, too.

Of course, you can’t leave without picking up some authentic Uji tea.
