The Eight Views of Yawata were initiated during the Genroku period by Kashimura Naoeda, a priest of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine, and were born as a full-fledged literary activity when high-ranking courtiers composed waka and Chinese poetry under the imperial command of Emperor Reigen, while the Satomura family, official renga masters of the shogunate, composed renga hokku.
We explore the world of Iwashimizu priests who carried out various activities.
