Traveling Exhibition “Unearthed History of Kyoto 2024”

The aim of this exhibition is to deepen interest in archaeology and buried cultural properties through the artifacts unearthed during excavation surveys, and to help visitors become familiar with ruins and artifacts.

Panel exhibition commemorating 50 years since the excavation of Kuni Palace

In cooperation with the Kyoto Prefectural Museum Forum Joint Exhibition, our museum will exhibit panels on the results of excavations at the historic site of Kunikyu Palace in the permanent exhibition room. This year marks the 1,300th anniversary of Emperor Shomu’s accession to the throne, and the panels will explore how much of the Kunikyu Palace site of Emperor Shomu has been discovered through 50 years of excavation work.

Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro Local History Museum (Hometown Museum Yamashiro)

They explore the unique history and culture of southern Yamashiro through research in archaeology, history, and folklore. Cultural Assets Passing Down to the Future – Exhibition of New Collected Items in Yamashiro Local History Museum

Since its opening in 1982, the Yamashiro Local History Museum has been collecting and preserving materials for over 40 years. Supported by donations and deposits from everyone, today we have collected over 80,000 materials across three fields: archaeology, folklore, and history.

This exhibition will showcase a carefully selected selection of materials collected in recent years that particularly convey the history and culture of the Minamiyamashiro region. A wide variety of materials will be gathered together, including materials related to the Himachiko sect, which are widely found in villages in the Minamiyamashiro region, the Kitamura Land Survey Register, and the Furukawa family documents, which are a collection of ancient documents from the early modern period to the modern era. In addition to the new collection, we will also exhibit the Okada Kuni Shrine documents, which were newly designated as a Kyoto Prefecture designated cultural property in 2023, and introduce their appeal once again.

We hope that this exhibition will be an opportunity to connect the cultural assets that have been passed down in the region to the future. We hope that through this exhibition, visitors will become more interested in the history and culture of the Minamiyamashiro region, and also gain a greater understanding of the museum’s important work of collecting materials.

Yoichi, a stay over small plate restaurant

After working in Osaka, Mr. Morimoto returned to his hometown and opened Yoichi with the desire to create a place where people could gather and relax. The building we are in is about 70 years old and has been renovated to create a comfortable interior space.

The second floor is used for accommodations. We make an effort to use local ingredients, such as the honey we put on our breakfast toast and the eggs we serve on our rice with raw egg.

Some of the game meats we use in our Japanese dishes are deer, wild boar, duck, and pheasant, and we also use soft-shelled turtle, eel, carp, and sweetfish in our cooking. We catch the sweetfish ourselves in the river in front of the store.

The area is a popular destination for visitors to Kasagi for seeing the cherry blossom season in spring, the autumn leaves, and the sea of clouds during the early mornings in autumn.

Kamuin Cafe

Our cafe is in an old Japanese-style house on an ancient travel route and we serve Japanese sweets to our visitors.
One of the most popular Japanese sweets at our cafe is ""Ohagi,"" made with glutinous rice, white rice, and sweet bean paste. Ohagi are usually palm-sized, but we also offer a colorful set of bite-sized ohagi in 5 different flavors, including matcha and ""kinako,"" roasted soybean flour.
Our crab motif is taken from the nearby Kanimanji temple, which is dedicated to crabs. We offer a variety of special seasonal menus at Kamuin Cafe, such as shaved ice in the summer, warm zenzai in the winter, and hamburgers made with bamboo shoots, a local specialty, in the spring.
