Kintsugi Class
Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese repair technique in which cracks or chips in pottery are repaired with lacquer and beautifully decorated with powdered gold or silver.
At urujyu, we use only "kiurushi," the most natural lacquer made by removing only impurities from the sap of lacquer trees, for our kinstugi. Why not spend your time doing some relaxing kintsugi in a quiet old Japanese house?
We have many kintsugi plans available. You can easily participate in our one-day experience or our short-term programs where you can learn one-on-one for a short period of time. Our most popular course is the Kintsugi STAY. This course combines a one-day experience and a short-term program, in which participants live in a detached building equipped with a kitchen and bathroom and stay for a set period of time. It is very popular with people from overseas.

Roadside Station Nagomi
Roadside Station Nagomi is located on the left bank of the Yura River, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of nature, surrounded by the river and greenery. We offer a space where you can indulge in the four seasons and a variety of meals and products for sale. With our vegetable section, every day is like a morning market! Local farmers bring in fresh grown vegetables and wild vegetables raised in the natural surroundings of Wachi every day. We also have plenty of seasonal and specialty products. We open the Ayu Garden in summer. We sell Wachikuro (edamame) and Wachi chestnuts in autumn. In winter, we feature game products such as deer and wild boar.

Vegan Life SoiSoi
We’re a cafe surrounded by nature in the Kyoto Prefecture countryside. We use ingredients sourced from local organic farmers and serve vegan plates featuring a different country’s cuisine every two months.
Using Middle Eastern spices, European cooking techniques and Asian recipes, we create unique and original dining experiences, offering many their first vegan food experience. We also offer vegan desserts, such as our smooth and creamy cheesecake made with soy milk. We have traveled around the world as backpackers and are fluent in English. Reservations are required!

Roadside Station Nagomi (Ayu Garden)
Ayu Garden is a famous corner of Nagomi. The fish we sell are farmed sweetfish from Lake Biwa. To make the fish as close to their natural state as possible, they are left to swim in the Tanigawa pond that flows into the Yura River for 1-2 weeks to tighten up their flesh. Once an order is placed, the sweetfish are skewered one by one and grilled with salt on a grill. You can savor the toasty aroma and taste of the sweetfish hot off the grill. There is also a space where you can catch sweetfish. Ayu Garden is fully equipped with BBQ facilities, so you can enjoy a BBQ with your family and friends without having to bring anything with you! We have a wide selection of meat, vegetables, and more. You can also just purchase pre-grilled salted sweetfish if you want! Make it an unforgettable summer memory.

Natural Whetstone and Hone Museum
Kameoka Kyoto is a sanctuary of natural whetstones and hones, blessed by ancient crustal movements. Kameoka-sourced high-quality Tamba Aoto and Awasedo stones have supported Japanese culture, including Japanese cuisine, Japanese swords, and Japanese-style architecture, with their exquisite sharpening ability. The Natural Whetstone and Hone Museum is an experiential museum that allows visitors to get up close and personal with natural whetstones. In addition to the Tamba Aoto and Awasedo stones produced in Kameoka City, the museum exhibits precious natural whetstones from all over Japan and the world (admission is free). There is also a shopping corner and knife sharpening workshop. The sharpening workshop includes lessons on knife sharpening and the creation of your own original whetstones.
